1. The Big E
The Big Eastern States Exposition, aka The Big E is one of the largest and most celebrated fairs in all of New England. Held annually in West Springfield, Massachusetts, this gargantuan regional fair runs for 17 days beginning on the second weekend of September (9/13) through the end of the month. Since its inception in 1916, The Big E has become a regional tradition, showcasing the rich cultural heritage, agricultural prowess, and vibrant community spirit of the Eastern states.
State Fair Exhibits feature individual installations dedicated to each of the six New England states—Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont—each displaying local products, crafts, and traditions. In terms of Entertainment, The Big E hosts a diverse lineup of performances, including live music, carnival rides, animal shows, and theatrical acts, for all ages. The Big E has the most adventurous Food and Drinks imaginable. The fair is renowned for its unique regional specialties including everything from deep-fried delicacies to gourmet treats. The Agricultural Displays are simply magnificent. The fair highlights agricultural achievements with livestock competitions, farm exhibits, and demonstrations, celebrating the region’s farming heritage. Certainly last but not least, the Shopping and Craft Vendors offer a vast array of handmade local goods, specialty items, providing a perfect opportunity for unique finds and souvenirs.
2. Connecticut Hiking Trails

Many orchards also feature fall-themed events including pumpkin picking, corn mazes, hayrides, and harvest festivals.
